Low cost online car insurance platform – G24

Generali was one of the first insurance companies in Slovenia that launched low-cost online car insurance, dedicated to retail market. 


Aim

The business model is similar to good practices that have already been successfully implemented on foreign markets, where insurance companies managed to gain a significant market share with similar online solutions. The main strategic objective of the project G24 was to increase market share which was tightly linked to optimization of the entire chain of the insurance process. Implementation of such a project required extremely complex and carefully planned activities, where IT technology was used to the greatest extent possible, which resulted in low cost car insurance packages offered under the brand “G24”.

Solution

The solution was implemented entirely by Parsek, from the definition of the concept to the final implementation and further optimizations based on selected analytical data. The solution is fully integrated into back-end systems of the Generali insurance company. For the purpose of this project Parsek extended the existing implementation of the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) integration middleware layer needed for communication between the portal application, Generali back-end systems and national Car Insurance Registry. Complex system integration enables users not only to obtain low cost car insurance in a few easy steps, but also to extend the validity of their registration certificate, which means that from the user's point of view the whole process is extremely simple and online supported.

G24 is developed in Java and running on a jBoss application server infrastructure with JSF (Java Server Faces) as the main application framework. A particular aspect from the technical point of view is the various integration modes (online services, xml integration, direct database integration, data file exchange). The user interface automatically recognises and adapts to different sizes of PC monitors and mobile devices.  

Services

Parsek's role within the project was to prepare project initiation document (PID) including user use cases, and providing project management, to plan the information architecture, technical implementation, prepare graphic design of the user interface, creation of SEO optimized content and URLs, plan and implement integration with different internal and external information systems, prepare and execute acceptance test protocol, provide training for administrators and user documentation, prepare and complete production installation, provide support under agreed terms of the SLA and in order to ensure online platform optimisation.

The project roll-out was done in four months’ time from the definition of the concept to go-live phase. Market results achieved through G24 brand, have exceeded the most optimistic predictions of the Generali Management Board.
