Demo Pilot Tourism 4.0 – iWellness: Telerehabilitation for continuous support along the patients’ recovery

Demo Pilot Tourism 4.0 project, co-financed by European cohesion funds and led by Arctur d.o.o. (lead partner), connects and unites Slovenian tourism stakeholders and high-tech companies. It aims to collect currently dispersed information and combine it into enriched data to accelerate the emergence of a new generation of applications, services and processes, resulting in enriched tourist experiences and the higher added value of Slovenian tourist services.

As part of the project and as an answer to the project’s objectives, the R&D project Demo pilot Turizem 4.0 – iWellness will be developed and implemented by Parsek.

Addressing the need for more accessible and targeted therapeutic services in musculoskeletal health

Musculoskeletal problems are a primary cause of disability in Europe. They affect people of all ages. Even though recovery programs differ in length and therapeutic activities, they all share the same goal – to reimburse the individual’s loss of bodily functions due to injury, illness or surgery and to allow them to return as soon as possible in their living and working environment.

As such, they’ve become an integral part of the healthcare circle, ensuring the continuity of care outside of hospital walls. Yet, once the patient leaves the care facility, the connection is lost and the care circle is broken, which can lead to sub-optimal therapy outcomes.

This is why we identified the opportunity to build an iWellness solution within the digital transformation of rehabilitation care within wellness facilities. It corresponds to the leading industry challenges, such as infrastructure constraints and lack of data exchange, demands for more personalised health services and a multidisciplinary approach to treatment: all to reduce frustrations and improve user experience and loyalty of those visiting the rehabilitation care centres.

iWellness: A simple care management solution to support patients’ progress along the recovery

The result of the R&D project is a development and demonstration of a comprehensive iWellness service built on top of the Vitaly eHealth Platform.

The iWellness solution will digitalise, automate and transform the existing operating processes in the wellness centres and is expected to stimulate:

  • Improved quality of existing wellness services in the field of therapeutic rehabilitation
  • Integration of monitoring products and services that have not been used before in the field
  • Comprehensive tracking of patients’ health and wellbeing outside the healthcare system
  • Access to healthcare & wellness services regardless of the location and time
  • Integration of technology into the decision-making and diagnostic processes
  • Holistic treatment and comprehensive overview of the patients through an interdisciplinary approach
  • Introduction of “Health-Coaches” – experts in the holistic approach counselling the guests of rehabilitation care services.

Enabling continuous care outside of the wellness facilities

Using digital technology allows patients to continuously perform their recovery activities at care facilities and from home. It also helps patients to feel empowered and motivated to participate in their self-care process. Moreover, this care model aims to support more affordable and personalised therapies and prevent potential complications due to constant contact with the care providers regardless of where the patient is located.

Having this in mind, we want to help the rehabilitation care centres become the hub for managing post-rehabilitation activities and providing potential sources of information for the clinical staff to improve the quality of care and overall patient experience along the recovery process.
